QUALITY CARE IN OTTAWA
Think of how much time you spend on your feet daily. Whether your job requires you to be on your feet all day, chasing after your kids, or trying to stay physically fit with exercise, we put a lot of pressure and stress on our feet.
And how do we repay our hard-working feet? Often, flip flops, high heels, and unsupportive/poorly fitted everyday shoes do nothing for our already aching feet.
If you’re struggling with chronic arch pain, heel pain, or just general aches in your feet, you could benefit from custom orthotics.
Custom orthotics are inserts that go in your shoe and help realign your ankles and provide your feet with the support they need. Custom orthotics are different from the inserts you’ll find in the aisles of your local drugstore. Custom orthotics are designed to address your concerns and perfectly fit your foot. You’ll quickly notice a difference in support if you switch from a generic brand to a custom orthotic.
If you think you could benefit from a custom orthotic to help reduce foot pain, A Plus Physiotherapy and Wellness Centre offers top-of-the-line custom orthotics in Ottawa.
would you benefit from custom orthotics?
If you experience one or more of these symptoms,
you may be a good candidate for custom orthotics, you’ll likely have one or more of the following:

foot deformities

poorly functioning ankles

extreme foot pain in arches and/or heels

pain in lower back and/or legs
Before getting fitted for a custom orthotic, we will go over your history to see if a generic insole has been previously tested and whether or not you have other concerns that need to be addressed, like mobility issues. In the case of mobility issues, we provide the best team of osteopaths in Ottawa to help assist with your treatment.
benefits of custom orthotics

reduced foot pain
Not surprisingly, with a custom orthotic, you’ll find a significant reduction in foot pain. Because custom orthotics are made specifically for you, we can pinpoint where exactly you require more support and create an insole that makes you feel like you’re walking in clouds.

improved posture
Believe it or not, investing in custom orthotics can greatly improve your posture. Not only because the lack of pain encourages you to stand taller, but also because of your physiology. When your feet are aligned correctly and properly supported, you’ll naturally start to stand taller without even trying.

less lower back pain
While you might not initially connect your foot pain to your back pain, if you’re not wearing shoes with enough support, you’ll notice that your lower back starts to hurt. We can create the support exactly where you need it to reduce back pain with custom orthotics.

fewer foot concerns
The pain in your feet is likely your biggest concern if you’re considering custom orthotics, but there’s also a good chance you’ve experienced issues with things like bunions and calluses. Investing in properly fitted custom orthotics designed just for you can help prevent these pesky foot concerns.
Leave that annoying foot pain behind.
It’s time to walk into your future comfortably with custom orthotics.

custom orthotics faqs
Are there different types of custom orthotics?
No two custom orthotics will be exactly alike because each orthotic is designed to fit perfectly to its owner. You’ll also often find that custom orthotics are made from different materials and can be placed in different areas of the shoe.
For example, you might only need a custom orthotic for your heel, while someone else might require a full shoe insert that’s more flexible than your orthotic. Both are custom but look very different. The most important part of a custom orthotic is that the orthotic is working for the patient in question.
What conditions can orthotics be used to treat?
Oftentimes, orthotics are prescribed as supplemental therapy to a larger issue. For example, orthotics are often used to treat arthritis and chronic back pain.
Specifically related to feet, custom orthotics will likely be used if you have flat feet, high arches, plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, hammertoes, and/or bunions.
As mentioned, orthotics can also be prescribed to treat back pain. No matter what your concern, your search for a physiotherapy center can end today. We have you covered.
How do you determine whether I need a custom orthotic?
A detailed history will be gathered, including whether or not you’ve used any sort of orthotic in the past and what type of footwear you’re currently wearing.
We’ll ask about your symptoms, specifically focusing on when the pain is the worst, what makes it better, and when you first started to notice symptoms.
From here, we’ll conduct a physical exam of your feet. We will often ask to see you walk to understand what your heel and ankle positioning is like.
